Andersen: 26 Small Caprices, Op. 37 – No. 19

Here’s Andersen No. 19 – a great finger workout! This etude sounds like it’s all trills, but it’s really all written out as even 32nd notes, so I wanted to make sure that I was challenging myself to use the real fingerings. I love trill fingerings and think that they can be great shortcuts when it’s appropriate! Sometimes the tone color and intonation differences can be way too obvious, so it may be a better choice to use the more-awkward but prettier-sounding fingerings. This etude is a great example of that, and has also shown me a few fingering combinations that could use a little more attention!

I was also playing with a different setup for my phone and music stand today. I like the lighting, but keeping myself in the frame is going to require a little more adjustment. Bonus: this way you can sometimes spot dogs and craft projects in the background!

I have seven more etudes left in this book, so I think it would be great to do one a day to finish up the book this week. Stay tuned to see if I manage it! Hope you’ve had a great weekend!
