Happy almost-New Year! This definitely is not one of my better etude recordings, but there's no way I was going to leave just one etude left going into 2021! I don't think it's entirely fair to finish an etude book in E-flat minor, but I got through it as well as I could after only one practice session on this one. There are a few mistakes and it's not quite presto but for now, finished is better than perfect.
Final reflections on Andersen 26 Small Caprices, Op 37:
Date started: June 14, 2020
Date completed: December 31, 2020
Favorite etude: No. 5 (the one that sounds like the Electric Light Parade!)
Most challenging etude: No. 25 (this book totally got harder as it went along)
202o has been a heck of a year for everyone, but one good thing that's come out of having more time at home has been this project. I hope to continue working my way through the stack of etude books, hopefully at a quicker pace than the last few months!
I'm not a big maker of New Year's Resolutions, but I do have a few goals in mind for 2021:
- Play my scales every day. If those few minutes are all the practicing I do, fine, but I at least want to take the flute out for that one thing.
- Play some orchestral excerpts a little more regularly.
- Keep playing etudes!
- Knit more socks :)
I hope you all have a happy and safe New Year!
