Engelbert Humperdinck’s Hansel and Gretel is one of the most beloved fairy-tale operas, enchanting audiences since its premiere in 1893. Based on the Brothers Grimm story, the opera blends Wagnerian harmonies with folk-like melodies, creating a rich and expressive musical tapestry. One of its most poignant and well-known moments is the Evening Prayer from Act II. Lost in the forest as night falls, Hansel and Gretel sing a prayer for protection before falling asleep. This intermediate flute quartet arrangement is scored for four C flutes.
