George Gershwin (1898-1937) was a pioneering American composer who blended classical music with jazz, creating a uniquely American sound. Best known for Rhapsody in Blue and Porgy and Bess, he sought to elevate jazz to the concert stage. His Three Preludes (1926), originally for solo piano, are a vibrant showcase of this fusion. The first, Allegro ben ritmato e deciso, is bold and syncopated, bursting with rhythmic drive. The second, Andante con moto e poco rubato, is a lyrical blues, rich with expressive harmonies. The third, Allegro ben ritmato e deciso, is a fast, dance-like piece, infused with Latin-inspired energy. In this advanced flute duet arrangement, these preludes capture Gershwin’s signature style, blending classical sophistication with the spontaneity of jazz.
