Composed in 1874 for solo piano, Modest Mussorgsky's Pictures at an Exhibition was inspired by an art exhibition featuring works by his late friend, Viktor Hartmann. Each movement portrays a specific image, linked by a recurring "Promenade" theme that reflects Mussorgsky's walk through the gallery. This advanced flute duet arrangement is scored for Flute 1 doubling on piccolo and Flute 2 doubling on alto flute, capturing the essence of the original while exploring the expressive possibilities of the flute family.
